~ 6 Aspects of the Great
Commission ~
“And Jesus came and
spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
earth. Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have
commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (Matthew
28:18-20).
The Master’s Authority ~
“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth’”
(Matthew 28:18).
“Jesus spoke these
words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: ‘Father, the hour has come.
Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You
have given Him’ (John 17:1-2).
The Servant’s Commission
~ Jesus said, “Go therefore and
make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).
“And
He said to them, ‘Go into all the world
and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized
will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:15-16).
The Making of Disciples
~ Jesus said, “Go therefore and
make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
(Matthew 28:19).
“And
when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,
strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the
faith, and saying, ‘We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of
God’” (Acts 14:21-22).
The Baptizing of Disciples
~ Jesus said, “Go therefore and
make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
(Matthew 28:19).
“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit
fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who
believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the
Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak
with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, ‘Can anyone forbid water,
that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we
have?’ And he commanded them to be
baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days” (Acts 10:44-48).
Teaching Disciples All Things
~ Jesus said, “teaching them to
observe all things that I have commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
“Now when they had come and gathered the church together,
they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door
of faith to the Gentiles. So they stayed
there a long time with the disciples” (Acts 14:27-28).
The Promised Presence
~ Jesus said, “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded
you; and lo, I am with you always, even
to the end of the age” (Matthew
28:20).
“Now those who were scattered after the persecution that
arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching
the word to no one but the Jews only. But some of them were men from Cyprus and
Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching
the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord
was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord” (Acts 11:19-21).
