~ Jesus Christ Welcomed
(and welcomes) Children and Child-like Faith ~
General Comment
~ When Jesus saw there was always an appropriate reaction and in each case
we can learn from the event.
Today’s Scripture
~ “Then
they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the
disciples rebuked those who brought them.
But when Jesus saw it, He was
greatly displeased and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and
do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not
receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.’ And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands
on them, and blessed them” (Mark 10:13-16, see also Mark 19:13-15 and Luke
18:15-17).
Application ~ Man’s
sophistication (actually pseudo sophistication) can cause him to miss simple
truths. To have eternal life requires a
simple acceptance of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “Jesus answered and
said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless
one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ Nicodemus said to Him, ‘How can a man be born
when he is old? Can he enter a second
time into his mother’s womb and be born?’
Jesus answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of
water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and
that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Do not marvel that I said to you, “You
must be born again.” The wind blows
where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes
from and where it goes. So is everyone
who is born of the Spirit’” (John 3:3-8).
With
regard to the following Scripture a former queen of England commented how glad
she was that there was the “m” in the phrases (that it didn’t say, “not any”). “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according
to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the
world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world
to put to shame the things which are mighty” (1 Corinthians 1:26-27).
