Learn From Gideon, 31

~ Follow God’s Exact Direction ~

The Biblical account of the life of Gideon provides for one of the most interesting character studies in all of Scripture.  In this series we will discover practical lessons for living the Christian life today.

Scripture  ~  He returned to the camp of Israel, and said, ‘Arise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand.’  Then he divided the 300 men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.  And he said to them, ‘Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do: When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!”’” (Judges 7:15b-18).

Learn From Gideon  ~  God wants us to listen to Him and then take action.
  1. Gideon followed God’s instructions precisely.
  2. To take a modified action from God’s specifics is disobedience.
  3. To seek to accomplish God’s directions in a different way is disobedience.
  4. To set your own time table is disobedience.
  5. Notice also that as Gideon has matured in his faith he has moved from the timid doubting follower to a spiritual leader with great confidence in his Lord.
  6. God’s people are to be people of action—not just students of His Word.

concluding comment  ~  We learn about Gideon primarily from Judges 6-8, but also Isaiah 9:1-7, and Hebrews 11:1-3, 32-34.
