~ God Grieves ~
This
Series ~ This
series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God. Generally, we move in alphabetical order.
Scripture ~ ‘Then
the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every
intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was
sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart”
(Genesis 6:5-6).
“How
often they [Israel] provoked Him in the wilderness, and grieved Him in
the desert!” (Psalm 78:40).
‘He
[Jesus] is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted
with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised,
and we did not esteem Him” (Isaiah 53:3).
“Now
as He [Jesus] drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, ‘If
you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for
your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you
when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close
you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the
ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did
not know the time of your visitation’” (Luke 19:41-44).
Comment for
Believers ~ “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,
by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath,
anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be
kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in
Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:30-32).
