~ Following Jesus Christ Is The Mark
of a True Christian Disciple ~
relevant passage ~ “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ” (1 Corinthians
11:1).
Why Follow
~ Jesus
said, “If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant
will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor” (John
12:26). “And Jesus, walking
by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother,
casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men’” (Matthew 4:18-19).
How
To Follow ~ “But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in
him and has followed Me fully, I will
bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it. Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell
in the valley; tomorrow turn and move out into the wilderness by the Way of the
Red Sea” (Numbers 14:24-25).
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone
desires to come after Me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will
lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains
the whole world, and loses his own soul?
Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of
His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his
works’” (Matthew 16:24-27).
How Not To Follow
~ “Having
arrested Him, they led Jesus and brought Him into the high priest's house. But Peter
followed at a distance” (Luke 22:54).
When To Follow ~ “Jesus
said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ They immediately
left their nets and followed Him” (Matthew 4:19-20).
The Rewards Of Following
~ “Jesus
spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light
of the world. He who follows Me
shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life’” (John
8:12). “Then Peter said, ‘See, we have left all and
followed You.’ So Jesus said to them, ‘Assuredly,
I say to you, there is no one who has
left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the
kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and
in the age to come eternal life’” (Luke 18:28-30).
