~ 7 Characteristics of Light ~

Background  ~  “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned” (Matthew 4:16).  

Consider just seven on the many interesting characteristics of light:

Light Is A Pure Element  ~  “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers.  For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness?  And what communion has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14). 

Light Is An Emblem Of Holiness  ~  “And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.  But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.  I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me’” (Acts 26:15-18).  “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). 

Light Comes To Us From The Son Of God  ~  “For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.  For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:5-6).  “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life’” (John 8:12).   

Light Is Cheerful  ~  “Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.  Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name” (Psalm 97:11-12).  “Truly the light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun” (Ecclesiastes 11:7). 

Light Is Healthful  ~  “But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves” (Malachi 4:2).  

Light Is Desirable  ~  “When it was day, they did not recognize the land; but they observed a bay with a beach, onto which they planned to run the ship if possible” (Acts 27:39).  “My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning—yes, more than those who watch for the morning” (Psalm 130:6).   

Light May Be Shut Out  ~  Jesus said, “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God” (John 3:19-21).
